Enrolment at St Mary’s

Enrolment Procedure

As part of the enrolment process you will need to meet with Father Vaughan who is our parish priest. He will help you to complete a consent form, which will indicate if your child qualifies for preference or open (non-preference) enrolment. Children with preference can generally be enrolled at our school as we have places available. St Mary’s school has a maximum of 7 places available for open place enrolment, and places may be available during 2023. Father Vaughan can advise you of this. If you would like more information, contact the school office on 476-4277 or email us at principal@st-marys.school.nz

The criteria for obtaining preference of enrolment are as follows.

The child has been baptised or is being prepared for baptism in the Catholic Church.
o
r
The child’s parents/guardians have already allowed one or more of the child’s siblings to be baptised in the Catholic faith.
or
At least one parent/guardian is a Catholic, and although their child has not yet been baptised, the child’s participation in the life of the school could lead to the parents having the child baptised.
or
One, or both of a child’s non-Catholic parents/guardians is preparing to become a Catholic.
or
With the agreement of the child’s parent/guardian, a grandparent or other significant adult in the child’s life, such as an aunt, uncle or godparent, undertakes to support the child’s formation in the faith and practices of the Catholic Church.

The criteria for Open or Non-Preference of enrolment are as follows.

The applicants accept that they will be attending a school of special character and that their place in the school is conditional on their participation in the programme.

The applicants accept that they will be required to pay attendance dues as set by the Proprietor and these are not voluntary.

i. The siblings of non-preference students already in the school.

ii. Siblings of former non-preference students.

iii. The children of staff or Board members who seek to enrol their children.

iv. Non-preference students coming from another integrated school with the same special character.

Attendance Dues are payable to the Catholic Education Office via the parish in which you live.  These dues help to provide and maintain the school buildings of the Dunedin Diocese.
