Starting School at St Mary’s.

Transition to school programme.
Our hill location means that children come to our school from a number of early childhood experiences and situations. At St Mary’s we believe that making a good start at school is important to your child’s experience of school. We have seen how children adapt more readily to school when they have been given the opportunity to integrate into classroom procedures gradually. Our transition programme is founded on this belief. and allows families who are considering enrolling at St Mary’s a great opportunity to see what schooling is like at St Mary’s.

We carefully develop our transition programme to meet the individual needs of each child and will plan this with you.

The benefits of attending our school transition programme are:

  • Tailored personally for your child
  • A smooth transition to school life
  • Feeling safe and familiar within the school environment
  • Having a sense of belonging
  • Forming relationships with others
  • Seeing themselves as a St Mary’s learner

Starting School
Building on our transition to school programme and its pathway into school, we also encourage school visits. These usually begin six weeks before your child is due to start school, however we will work with you to make transition into school as smooth as possible.

It is also a really good idea to bring your child to the playground at the weekends or after school so they get familiar with the surroundings of the school before their first visit.

If you would like more information about school visits or have any questions, please contact us.
